Long-time venue partner, The International Centre, was planning a memorable reception to celebrate and honour the retirement of their Chief Executive Officer of nearly 25 years, Michael Prescott. With many event attendees being long standing clients, staff, suppliers and friends from the industry, The International Centre team needed to create an experience that would “wow” their guests and transform their convention centre space into something unique and special.
The International Centre team wanted to create a special experience for their CEO and attendees. They needed an event concept that would enable them to transform their familiar meeting room into something new and unique. To achieve this, The International Centre trusted Freeman to collaboratively develop a theme and turned to Freeman’s Special Events and Entertainment division to provide décor, lighting and entertainment solutions to transform and personalize the event.
Knowing that the cottage was a special place for Prescott’s family, Freeman created a Muskoka themed concept that would bring the cottage feel to the event guests. To create the look and feel of being at the cottage, Freeman surfaced the meeting room stage with faux grass, campfire pits for roasting marshmallows, and picture-perfect Muskoka chairs. We provided soft ambient lighting and a live country guitarist to set a cottage vibe for attendees, while pictures from Michael’s career were projected above our custom built Plexiglas podium.
The International Centre’s Muskoka themed retirement party for Michael was a huge success. There were many marshmallows roasted and a ton of new picture-perfect memories made. The amount of comments and best wishes on Michael’s farewell card were a tell-tale sign that the event was well received. “We couldn’t all go to the Prescott’s cottage, so we brought the cottage to him,” commented The International Centre. “It was a tremendous celebration, and an evening many of us will never forget.”
