With the cold weather finally starting to make way for sunnier skies, we can’t help but get excited for spring, summer, and the fun that comes along with these warmer months. The onset of spring has us eager to ditch our winter coats and dreaming of music, food, and festivals. Here’s a guide to some of the great outdoor events this spring, happening in cities all across North America.

Houston

Washington

For nature lovers, just outside of the city at Mount Vernon lays a spring treasure to be found. From April 17-19th indulge your senses in the annual Tulip Festival’s Street Fair. While the Tulip Festival is a month long show, the street fair takes place this specific weekend drawing in artists, vendors and crafts people. Experience great fare and fun, along with the stunning tulips on display. If you’re searching for a perfect outdoor event this spring, you must check out Mount Vernon!

Banff

Friday evening you can enjoy Joel Plaskett Emergency with Matt Anderson and the Mellotones, and Saturday afternoon you’ll hear K-OS with Rural Alberta Advantage and Hannah Georgas play. With the mountains as your backdrop and the music filling your ears, you don’t need to be anywhere else this weekend.

Atlanta

For beer and beats, check out the Sweetwater 420 Fest in Atlanta. Running from April 17-19th at Centennial Olympic Park, you’ll spend the weekend enjoying 25 unique craft beers while jamming out to some great music. Look forward to performances by Snoop Dogg, 311, Moe, and many more amazing artists and bands. Don’t miss the comedy tent as well, with hilarious stand-up acts to give you some laughs throughout the day. This packed weekend will be a great kick-off for a summer full of music and drinks.

Toronto convention industry surging again, tourism board says

Stronger world economy and a vibrant downtown contributed to spike in hotel bookings for meetings and conventions in 2014, says Tourism Toronto.

The end of the Great Recession and generous words from Vogue magazine are among the reasons that Toronto’s convention industry is booming again, after a swoon brought on by tough economic times, the city’s tourism agency says.

Almost half a million people booked a meeting or convention visit to Toronto in 2014, good for over 600,000 hotel room nights — the first time the city has cracked that threshold.

A resurgent world economy, top-flight hotels, and an increasingly vibrant downtown have all contributed to the convention sector’s growth, said Tourism Toronto spokesman Andrew Weir.

“As Toronto’s reputation and cachet grows — when you have Vogue magazine talking about Queen W. as one of the hippest neighbourhoods in the world — it increases the desirability of that destination,” Weir said.

AVW-TELAV partner, The Palais des congrès, confirms 14 major conventions & trade shows

For the quarter ending September 30, 2013, the Société du Palais des congrès de Montréal has confirmed it has secured a total of seven international1 conventions and four national2 conventions, up more than 57 % compared with the same period last year. These 11 major events will generate an estimated $ 53 M thanks to the nearly 28,000 convention-goers they will attract to the city. Secured primarily with the cooperation of the Société’s partner Tourisme Montréal, they will result in more than 60,000 room nights being booked in hotels across the city. Nearly 4,000 participants will attend the newly confirmed trade shows, expected to generate economic spinoffs of almost $ 4 M.

Canadian Tourism Commission’s meetings, conventions & incentive travel sector reveals fresh focus & new name

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre was presented with the Ontario Sustainable Tourism Award at the 2012 Ontario Tourism Summit, held in London, Ont.

The summit and ceremony were hosted in partnership by the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation and the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance, and included awards for excellence in advertising, marketing, culinary tourism, and sustainability.
