Each year, audio visual professionals across the globe celebrate the AV industry for one week in October, known as AV Week. This year, we celebrate AV Week from October 14th to 20th.The theme of AV Week is “Embrace the Power of AV” and its purpose is:
•To call attention to the AV industry
•To raise awareness of the breadth of AV applications at home, in business, government, education, entertainment, healthcare and more
•To see AV recognized as a high-technology industry with exciting growth prospects
•To address the issues the AV industry faces, such as hiring qualified workers, maintaining its own high standards through ongoing training and certification and competing in today’s environment with tighter profit margins
As a leading representative of the meetings and events industry, we at AVW-TELAV feel it is our social responsibility to raise awareness of the audio visual and presentation solutions business in Canada. As such, in honour of last year’s fifth annual celebration of AV, AVW-TELAV had October 16th to 22nd, 2011, officially recognized by many of the mayors of major Canadian cities that host an AVW-TELAV branch and honour a proclamation-signing policy.
This year, we decided to reach out to our customers and partners through our e-newsletter in the hopes of promoting acknowledgement of the prevalence of AV in our lives; increasing awareness of the exciting career opportunities available in the audio visual industry; and educating about the value of AV to inform, inspire, and even save lives.
In this issue, you’ll find our National Director of Technical Inventory’s annual InfoComm Tradeshow update, which will give you a glimpse into some of the new and improved presentation technology that was introduced this year and predict its potential impact on the world of live events. You’ll also learn more about AVW-TELAV’s commitment to industry innovation and get details on our exciting new web-based social media conversation platform. In addition, we have included information on career opportunities at our organization, as well as a special AV-appreciation series of comics that illustrates just a few of the many ways AV has made our lives a little easier…and a lot more amusing.
And finally, all AV Week long, we will be asking you via social media to share with us an experience in your life that was positively impacted by AV technology. A prize will be awarded for one of the entries that leave a lasting impression on us. We hope you enjoy this AV Week Special Edition of Meetings in Progress.
Happy AV Week, everyone!
